This is an opportunity for you to really think about the three roles of the RN. Based on the week you are in, your focus and goals will change. Think about what you wish to accomplish each week in clinical and communicate through this blog [journal]. There was no previous clinical journal assignment. Rationale for assignment:
To allow students to set specific goals, formulate a plan to accomplish them and encourage them to reflection the experience. It is also a way to help solidify the three roles of the RN. The questions will change as the student progresses through the semester. What I am looking for is to see them move from the provider [task oriented] role that they are familiar with, into the manager and member role that is required of the senior nursing student. If I see the goals focusing on provider I can give them feedback that will assist them to see that their goals need to encompass all three roles.
Instructions students will need to use technology:
They will be directed to the blogger web page [above] and will also be provided a step by step instruction here on this assignment page. Ideally I will be able to demonstrate this in a smart classroom.
Brief description of content students will need to accomplish assignment (textbook, websites, lectures, videos, resources):
Use of blogger web site, management textbook, course notes and clinical objectives.
Instructions for students to complete assignment: Clinical Journal N250

Grading criteria, rubric, and assessment:
These entries are worth 2 points each and require the student to answer the questions completely and with proper writing etiquette. There is no rubric for this 2 point assignment. I could create one if need be. Feedback will be provided with each entry submitted. The following is an example of what clinical journal, week one would look like. Clinical journal: Week One
